Another huge day here at the Championships. The $4,000,000 weight-for-age Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the headline with other feature races including the $2,000,000 Sydney Cup, the $1,000,000 Australian Oaks and the $1,000,000 Coolmore Stakes. With some top quality thoroughbreds in action we should be treated with some even better racing.

Prized Icon has been super consistent of late and looks ready to kick-start his career with a breakout win in a high quality race.
Obscura ran 1 length behind Prized Icon last start and gets a nice 1.5kg swing on it too. Likewise with Crown Him only half a length from Prized Icon dropping 1kg here; looks a decent bet at $8. Another similar story with Reinforced getting a 1.5kg weight relief here after finishing 2.7 lengths off the winner last start. If searching for more value, Hutcho finished only 0.7 of a length behind Prized Icon two starts ago; he might need a bit of luck here. Best Bet: Obscura
Updated Best Bet: Crown Him
R2 Mcgrath Agents South Pacific 1400m
Kimberley Star ran well in the Gosford Guineas last start. Should press on and be highly competitive here. Mawahibb has been consistent of late and has been running in lower grades; the form hasn’t stood up. Sonic Swish ran well last start 2.2 lengths behind Federal after winning it’s maiden. Although finishing 9th last start, Santa Ana Lane wasn’t too far back in the field. He was impressive two starts back and his recent trial win says he’s a great chance here. Puritan will be competitive at nice each way odds of $15, as will Suspense at $11. Keep an eye on Tulsa who wouldn’t surprise in this field.
Best Bet: Kimberley Star
R3 Provincial Championships Final 1400m
A huge field here with many winning chances. Supreme Effort has been on fire of late and won a recent barrier trial to sharpen him up. Looks a great bet here at $9. His Majesty was not far off Supreme Effort last start and looks as though he’ll be right up to this. Hetty Heights has been convincing her last two starts; should put in another great race here. Danish Twist has some quality and can see her right in the finish. If you’re chasing the odds Rustic Melody looks a good bet at $17 winning it’s last start. Unequivocal will also be competitive running only 3.5 lengths behind Malaguerra last start.
Best Bet: Supreme Effort
R4 Ig Markets Percy Sykes Stakes 1200m
Prompt Response has been very good in her first two starts running half a length behind Concealer and 2.1 lengths behind Calliope. Her recent trial here was promising and will be right up there again. Thyme For Roses finally fired last start and has been trialling well. Downsides are the weight rise and the wide draw. Twist Tops has been consistent lately and bolted home in a recent trial; could be dominant here. Najmaat was impressive last start in Victoria and if she runs similar she’ll be in the finish. One that could surprise many is Spright ($61). The Telperion and Omei Sword form from earlier this year reads well for this.
Best Bet: Prompt Response & Spright (Each Way)
R5 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint 1200m
We all know Japonisme‘s quality but he’s been finding it hard to win in some high class races. Drawn midfield, Bowman on board and set weights; he’ll run well. Petits Filous was the next best thing last preparation. Forgive her 10th two starts back as it was up against very strong competition. Although drawn out wide Oliver is back on board and she drops 5.5kg; She will be very competitive after her promising first up run. Hellbent has been impressive of late and has trialled well. Not out of this in the slightest. Spill The Beans looks as though he will be competitive. Takedown has immense quality and should be running on late here. Drops in weight and can run well at a nice price ($15). For more value, Egyptian Symbol could surprise at $21.
Best Bet: Petits Filous
R6 James Boag’s Australian Oaks 2400m
Jameka has been very close to continuing her winning ways of late last year but is yet to register a win this prep. We know her quality and she’ll be difficult to beat here. Happy Hannah has been very impressive recently. Blake Shinn takes the ride and she’s drawn midfield; she could cause an upset. Single Gaze beat home Happy Hannah last start and could do the same here. We’ve seen glimpses of her quality and if she’s on, she looks overs at $15. Self Esteem’s another who looks overs at $41. Sofia Rosa has been in good form of late and with any luck can keep it going.
Best Bet: Jameka – Also might have a bit each way on both Single Gaze ($15), and Self Esteem ($41)
R7 Schweppes Sydney Cup 3200m
Who Shot Thebarman has been very impressive and ran a close second in the BMW at Rosehill. He’s down 2kg in weight and looks to be right up there here. Libran has been sensational lately and he just keeps on winning. He has a 4kg advantage on Who Shot Thebarman and will look to take advantage of that over the longer trip. Grand Marshal was close behind Who Shot Thebarman last start and might be able to close that gap over this longer trip. Almoonqith could surprise some, winning the Sandown Cup last year at this distance. Gallante was only 2.5 lengths behind Libran last start and loses an extra half a kilo from that run. Could surprise.
Best Bet: Libran

Azkadellia is a high quality mare and we know how good she is. Beaten by Winx only 2.2 lengths last week; will be running on if she has anything left in the tank on the quick backup. Looks hard to beat if she’s 100%. Suavito has been freshened since running poorly last start. 1600m is her go so put a line through her latest effort at 2000; she should be firing here. Zanbagh was only 1.6 lengths off Azkadellia two starts ago but has a relative weights disadvantage on that effort. Might be too tough considering. Although disappointing last start, Risque has immense quality and if she runs well she’ll be right in the finish. Badawiya has put in a couple of strong performances recently and could surprise. Lady Le Fay is another who can surprise at nice odds.
Best Bet: Suavito

R9 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stks 2000m
The United States won last start and won well. He looks primed for this race and will be giving everything to fly home. Preferment is a fighter and will be right up there in this one. Hauraki was close behind The United States last start, McDonald maintains the ride and could go one better here. Criterion has been improving with each run this preparation and looks to be primed and ready to win here. It’s Somewhat has been impressive of late and could surprise a few here at nice odds of $17. Happy Clapper was impressive behind Winx last start and should be fighting out the finish. Awesome Rock looks to be huge overs at the moment finishing a close second to Preferment last start. One that could come in at huge odds is Leebaz. He loves this distance and has shown he has the quality in previous races. Although it would take a huge effort to get up at $126, the $31 quote for a place looks tempting.
Best Bet: Criterion

Bounding has been disappointing of late but if she can show us her true quality she shouldn’t have any problems here. Griante shocked many last start and beat Bounding by 2 lengths last start, however it loses 2.5kg to it here. Might be too tough but Williams will give it every chance. Cradle Me loses 5kg form when she ran 4th last start. This will favour her greatly and looks every chance here. Secret Agenda‘s last two starts haven’t been great. She has the quality as shown previously and could surprise a few here at double figures.
Best Bet: Cradle Me
