Warwick Farm // 3rd August

Midweek racing in NSW takes us to Warwick Farm in the first week of August! Some big fields here will make for some longer odd horses in with a shot.

R1 Myboycharlie @ Vinery Mdn Hcp 1100m

Some very good three year olds battle it out in race one which should be a great contest. Pittsburg* is yet to win after four starts, however has been running in some big races. Finished not too far back from Yankee Rose on a couple of occasions and should be up there here. Ebenos has put together a couple of nice trials on a soft track of late, and will look to be competitive in his first start from the wide draw. Glenall ran a close second in a recent trial and has his first start here. Is currently favourite on the fixed price at $4.50 but not sure his trial form has been too strong. Coonawarra is another debutant in this race and is running for Waterhouse & Bott. Scored by a nose in recent trial and looks to be overs at current price of $17.

Verdict: Think Pittsburg’s form will be too strong. His only start on a wet track (heavy) he finished a very close second. Plenty of value around him but this is not an easy race by any means. A few unknowns here and wouldn’t put it past Ebenos, Glenall, and Coonawarra either, therefore take Pittsburg each way.

Prediction: 1-5-6-4

R2 Tab More Than Just Winning Mdn 1100m

Another maiden here with 15 runners. Cocoexcel absolutely bolted in by 2.5lengths in her last trial, on a soft track at Rosehill. Two winning trials together now and looks like she’s in tip top shape. Red Hearts has done the same, winning her last two trials on a soft track however at Randwick. Think that these two are the two to beat. Larapineta has only has the one start and finished 9th, however was not disgraced, beaten 4.6 lengths by Calliope in a big race. Will have her admirers and isn’t without a chance. Moqueen’s last two starts have been quite promising, running in some big races at Randwick and Rosehill. Definitely with a chance and shouldn’t be ignored. In Times Of War could also surprise some, finishing a close second in her only trial on a soft track.

Verdict: I think this should be a contest between Cocoexcel and Red Hearts, however the others aren’t without chances. Cocoexcel has the edge over Red Hearts; I just think she’s been more convincing. Larapineta, Moqueen and In Times Of War should fight it out for the minor placings.

Prediction: 4-11-1-7

R3 Mcgrath Estate Agents (bm67) 2200m

Shorter field here but tougher race to pick! Major Major scored by half a length last start at Randwick but gains 7.5kg here! Very big weight swing might make this tough. Elusive Runner only recently resumed after a very long spell. Hasn’t quite come back in inspired form but should be fitter after first three starts back. In with a shot. Consented has finished runner up in his last four starts now. Drops 8.5kg here which will be very handy however hasn’t won on a soft track. I think theres a bit of value around Chaquinta. Low in weights and does enjoy a wet track; keep handy.

Verdict: Very tough race and happy to sit this one out.

Prediction: 2-1-4-9

R4 Tab.com.au (bm66) 1200m

Such an open race. Happy to sit this one out completely.

R5 #theraces (bm67) 1200m

Another really tough race! Perizada has been really good this prep and does enjoy a wet track. Will probably start favourite with a relatively low weight. Rakitno won her maiden well, and then was competitive at Canterbury in a bm70. Not without a chance. Little Miss Brown* won her maiden in April, and then won a trial just over a week ago. Will look to make the most of the wet track and should run well. Art’n’Ollie won by 5 lengths at Narromine last start and drops a few kilo’s on that run. Wasn’t the toughest field last time out but winning form is winning form. Lot Three Four One has been running in much higher grades of late and should perform well here.

Verdict: Another tough race with many chances. I do like the look of Little Miss Brown at $14, as her only start on a soft track she won by nearly two lengths.

Prediction: 12-8-10-13

R6 Pro-ride (bm70) 1400m

Sniper* won well first up Canterbury when finishing 1.7lengths in front of rival Choice Larga. No change in the weights here and going off that form Sniper should have the edge. Choice Larga is not to be dismissed however. He has been very consistent this prep and shouldn’t be ignored. Conarchie is a good horse who will be super competitive here. Has been running in higher grades than this, however the high weight of 61kg will be a challenge. Bells Of War has been very consistent of late and this grade is not beyond her. Will enjoy the relatively low weight and should be coming home strong towards the end. Big Arty also seems to have found some form winning his last two, and will look to improve on that here.

Verdict: I think the Sniper/Choice Larga form is good and if Sniper has overcome his respiratory issues of last start he should be the main threat.

Prediction: 4-3-12-1

R7 Tab Rewards (bm66) 1600m

Last race of the short card today and it’s another tough race. Crown Moss enjoys a wet track and won last time out at Wyong in a similar grade. Zadok The Priest has strung together four wins in a row, and last start winning in a bm70 on a soft track. Looks the goods here. Aurora Glow loves a soft track and her last two runs have been promising. Does hold a lot of weight which might make it tough. Granite Belt moved to a soft track in his last two starts and won them both, including breaking his maiden. Is the top weight but actually loses a kilo on last start. Definitely in with a shot.

Verdict: Zadok The Priest is flying at the moment but can he keep it up? Crown Moss won well last start but was that a fluke? Aurora Glow seems the best chance with her soft track form and therefore she’s on top.

Prediction: 15-14-7-1

Best Bets:

R5 – #8 Little Miss Brown EW @ $14/$4.30

R6 – #4 Sniper EW @ $9.50/$3.20

Sandown // 10th May

Best Bets:

R2 – #7 Vantaggio W @$3.50

Vantaggio blitzed the field in his first run at Cranbourne by 4.25 lengths. Actually loses a kilo on that run too. Other threat is Lunar Spin, however when he ran a similar race at Cranbourne to score his maiden win, he won by 2.25 lengths, and gains weight from that here. Drawn on the inside of Lunar Spin, you’d think Vantaggio will beat him and the rest of the field here.

R6 – #8 Aurum Spirit EW @$13/$4

Aurum Spirit absolutely flew home last start to score an impressive victory at huge odds! 5kg lighter here, and Mertens retains the ride, look for it to bolt home late! Getting on in age but turned back the clock last time and can do it again.

R8 – #1 Payroll W @ $5.00

A filly with a lot of class. Ran in some huge races in her short career, including finishing in front of Jameka towards the back end of last year. Resuming after a decent spell but has the quality. Drawn wide, so look for her to settle towards the back end and come flying home late.

R1 The Grand Hotel Frankston Mdn 1200m

Art Of Perception was a fair way back in it’s first start at Caulfield. However, He did face some tough opponents, and eventual winner Bassett has been impressive of late. Hasn’t run for a while so keep safe. Ayda hasn’t run this year and might have needed the freshen up to run well here. Finished far back against good opposition last start. Blue Money wasn’t too far off in her last start. Will jump the widest but could win this. Thirty Grand Over was so close to breaking it’s maiden last start, and with Oliver on board will give it a real go here. Miles Of Krishan is yet to debut or trial, but out of Snitzel could surprise a few.

Prediction: 5-3-2-4

One To Watch: Miles Of Krishan

R2 The Cove Hotel Mdn Plate 1400m

St Rumon was very close last start, drawn well and Rawiller on board are both ticks. Sacred Days looks like a horse with some potential. Was close last start and with a bit of luck can win this. Ticketing was disappointing last start on synthetic, however has every chance again here. Sacred Theme wasn’t too far off last start and will be hard to beat here with Boss on board. Best Hoffa just can’t seem to gain it’s first win, with a bit of luck here it will look to do so.

Prediction: 6-5-7-8

One To Watch: Best Hoffa

R3 Thebigscreencompany.com (bm70) 1200m

Weather The Storm* has shown great promise in her first few starts. Not far off Silent Sedition and Risque, if it recreates that form it will be hard to beat. Mystic Moon has been in relatively good form recently, however up in the weights here. Drawn in the middle and Bayliss will claim 1.5kg; second best pick. Tycoon Kate won on debut last start, and will be competitive once again here. New Summer Night has been around the mark in lower grades than this, will need to improve a lot to win. Gingie will be looking to improve here and could surprise a few.

Prediction: 4-1-3-2

One To Watch: Tycoon Kate

R4 Schweppes (bm78) 2100m

Maraudamiss has been very good in her last few starts. She’s making a jump up in class, and hasn’t won at this distance before but will be competitive. Choux Diva ran well two starts back at long odds, and improved last start but couldn’t find a win. Could put in a real shift here. Belvedere Road drops a few kilo’s here and will jump from the inside. Not the worst bet at decent odds ($12). We liked Are The Bungs In last start and it didn’t disappoint at $18! Tougher here but not without a chance!

Prediction: 3-7-1-5

One To Watch: Are The Bungs In

R5 Beck Property Group Plate-bm70 1400m

Rib Eye went back to trial recently and won that convincingly. Hasn’t won at this distance from two starts but looks better after that trial. Caprese has been running well in this grade and looks as though the extra 200m will suit. Oliver on board a big tick. Jezzabba has shown signs of improvement the last few starts and could easily win this being low in the weights. Hunamosa has only raced four times to date, however hasn’t looked the same since it’s first two. Not beyond it here but will need luck. Captain Kittinger won impressively last start, albeit in a bm64. Up here but has won at the distance before, keep handy.

Prediction: 8-2-11-4

One To Watch: Captain Kittinger

Quaddie Numbers: 2 4 8 9 11

R6 Ladbrokes Live Play (bm70) 1600m

Kalidaz* has been very impressive so far, beating Devilishly by 4 lengths, and backing that up with a close third. Statton won well last start, beating Jezzabba by a length. Has won at the distance and could do so again. Iron Spider was blocked for a run last start, which was disappointing. Has the quality, just a matter of if it can get the job done. Pendles is up in weight, however it ran brilliantly last start. If it improves from that run it will have every chance. Aurum Spirit is one that could surprise here. Has been around the mark lately and given some luck can win.

Prediction: 12-4-11-1

One To Watch: Pendles

Quaddie Numbers: 1 2 4 11 12

R7 Catanach’s Jewellers Plte-bm70 1200m

Good Offa has been super this year, going 4:1,3,0 so far. Has a real chance here. Miniver has shown real promise of late as well. Williams on board and low in weight should suit nicely. Tiger’s Cub* look as though the drop back in class will suit. Has been flying home lately and will look to do the same here. Lord Barrington has the quality if at it’s best. Won nicely last start and might string together some nice runs here. Spirit Or Lager is one that could surprise. Placing nicely in it’s last two starts at a higher grade, this isn’t out of the question.

Prediction: 8-6-11-1

One To Watch: Spirit Or Lager

Quaddie Numbers: 1 6 8 10 11

R8 Le Pine Funerals (bm70) 2100m

The Bandit* looks very hard to beat here. Won nicely two starts ago and wasn’t too far off Zahspeed last start. Never ran at this distance before but it seems as though it will suit. Western Kingdom won well last start at this distance. Not without a chance here from barrier 3. Surging Wave ran decently at around this distance last start, could surprise a few here at decent odds ($16). Crocodile Rock got out to a long maiden last start and won well. Might be a long distance horse and therefore will enjoy this extended trip. Keep Handy.

Prediction: 2-10-7-3

One To Watch: Surging Wave

Ballarat // 13th April

R1 Aha (vic) Mdn Plate 1400m

Dizzy Days was close here last start and will look to improve from that. Kinglami has been close of late and should find itself up there again here. Miss Octette ran well last start, however it’s two runs before that it was disappointing. Might have found some form last run so keep an eye on it here. Mercy May keeps on improving and may surprise some here. Dusty Mamba hasn’t shown much so far and would prefer others.

Best Bet: Dizzy Days

R2 C.e. Bartlett Mdn Plate 1400m

This looks like a race between Comeback and Sirius Witness. Comeback has been so close to breaking it’s maiden, with 6 second placings from 9 runs. It has been running at decent tracks and should be very competitive here once again. Sirius Witness looks to be a serious Filly for Darren Weir, and has shown some potential in her first few runs. An outsider here that may surprise a few is Margot’s Boy, running well lately with some strong form.

Best Bet: Comeback

R3 City Of Ballarat Mdn Plate 1000m

Strong favourite Tales Of War is the top weight here and has been so close to claiming it’s first win. Although it will carry the most weight it will be tough to beat. Ell Factor ran well in her last start for third, and if it improves it can win this. Nolen on board is a big tick. Thirty Grand Over was only 1 length behind Tales Of War last start, however gains an extra kilo from that run. Even with a 2kg apprentice claim, it might be too tough for it here unless it has improved significantly. Written Era can run a nice race here at decent odds too ($7).

Best Bet: Ell Factor

R4 Pfd Food Services Mdn Plate 1600m

Mount Omei dropped back to maiden grade last start and nearly scored it’s first victory. It will be very competitive here for Ben Melham. Nakataan has taken a while to get going, and while finishing 2nd and 3rd in her last two starts, has still been a few lengths off winning. She is drawn wide and up in the weights which will make it tougher. Rondalago has been consistent of late, and with a bit of luck can win this. Crafty Devil and Vodianova are two that could cause an upset here too.

Best Bet: Mount Omei

R5 Hygain (bm70) 1200m

Serenade has serious quality, running in some big races towards the end of last year. If it can emulate that form here, it will win. Miniver has been improving in this grade over it’s last few starts. It looks as though it can go one better and get the win here. With Williams on board it will have every chance. Valrouz may find itself in a decent position here; down in the weights and drawn well, it could surprise a few. Another that will run an honest race is Flying Spark.

Best Bet: Serenade

Quaddie Numbers: 2,3

R6 Porter Plant Cup (bm78) 1600m

Haradafull was sensational last start and showed just how good it is. This field isn’t much tougher, however is up in the weights that may prove a task. Plot The Course was only 2.5lengths behind Haradafull last start, and turns around 2kg on it here. If it gets its chance it can win. Zlatan is a good horse who has been very consistent of late. Will run well from barrier 4. Vincent’s Thirst has been great this prep, and dropping 2kg here looks to be a great chance. Siga La Vaca was very impressive last time out and dropping 5kg here will suit it nicely. Can surprise a few here with a bit of luck. Street Sharp was also impressive last start, and with Williams on board it could win this.

Best Bet: Haradafull

Quaddie Numbers: 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 10

R7 Hygain (bm64) 1000m

She’s Ellie has been good of late and dropping down in grade here can run a competitive race. Release The Speed has some great quality, it’s just a matter of if he can display that here, with such a heavy weight. What A Hoot was competitive in this grade last start, and if it can improve here it can win this. Kahuna won it’s latest trial by 8 lengths, and if that is anything to go by, the $13 for it looks a very good bet! Sail Rocket won it’s last race by over 4 lengths and if it brings that performance again here it will be competitive.

Best Bet: Release The Speed (Also keep an eye on Kahuna. Very interested to see how it runs).

Quaddie Numbers: 1, 2, 5, 7, 11, 14

R8 Sportsbet Live Racing (bm64) 2000m

Maraudamiss has one start at this distance for one win and looks the one to beat. Prestbury Park won in this grade two starts ago and will be competitive here once again. Eliza’s Viscount trialled well recently and ran well before that. If it gets a chance here it will take it. Remorse has been very consistent in this grade of late, and if it gets the luck it needs it can win here.

Best Bet: Maraudamiss

Quaddie Numbers: 1, 7, 10, 14

Bendigo // 30th March

Midweek racing at Bendigo is back, and today sees 4 maiden races, 3 bm64’s and a bm70.

R1 Jayco Mdn Plate 1000m

Jersey Girl has been close in it’s first two starts, and if it can get out into a good position early in the race from barrier 7 it will have every chance. Ameristralia was close to winning on debut at Kyneton, however it’s last start finished fourth by 8.5 lengths, which indicates it may need a spell. It does have the quality though. Jstar will jump from the fence, and with Oliver on board will have every hope. Good Maneuver looks great each value at the $7 after a close second in it’s first start.

Best Bet: Good Maneuver

R2 Country Vet Mdn Plate 1300m

Torelli was 0.2 lengths from winning on debut at Warrnambool, and it will come home strong with Nolen on board. Against this field it shouldn’t be losing. Groote Eylandt has had 14 attempts at getting out of the maidens for no luck, however if it all clicks, it can win. One with value is the top weight Al Gerard at $21, finishing a second last start.

Best Bet: Torelli (Shouldn’t be losing). For more value bet Al Gerard each way.

R3 Schweppes Mdn Plate 1400m

A big field of 15 start here. Our Kryptonite ran 2.3 lengths third to Nat’s The Boss, who ran well for third at Sandown on Monday. Comeback, although being beaten by Our Kryptonite last start, will be competitive as always and has every chance here from barrier 6. Haste Bebe won it’s latest trial and will be interesting to see how it runs in it’s first competitive start. Roan Cheval looks ready to win after two seconds for Darren Weir.

Best Bet: Comeback

R4 Woodside Park Stud Mdn Plate 2200m

Itchicoo Park will appreciate the extra distance, and with barrier 1 it has every chance. Fiefdom outran Rosamond last start and an extra 200m this race it should do the same. Rushmore will be competitive here but just can’t seem to win. Might run better in this field. For more value, Gold Librettist looked like it loved the extra ground last start, and a bit further here may suit nicely.

Best Bet: Itchicoo Park

R5 Mckern Steel (bm64) 2200m

Remorse came home nicely last start, a close second to London Fog, and will be very competitive again. Gilago has won at this distance before and in a higher grade, However has looked disappointing in its first two starts this prep. Wintonia, after winning it’s maiden is rising in grade and dropping in weight. Don’t be surprised if this wins. Are The Bungs In looks overs at $51 and could cause a shock here.

Best Bet: Hard to split Remorse & Gilago, but if I had to choose I’d go Gilago.

Quaddie Numbers: 1 4 5 8

R6 Bendigo Rsl (bm70) 1300m

Overberg hasn’t trialled well recently, however last prep it was very sharp. Mr Pago has been disappointing recently, although on it’s day this isn’t beyond him. Bee Jay Zed can run a nice here at juicy odds of $7.50 and with Coffey on board is every hope. Of the others, Stereosonic can run a strong each way race.

Best Bet: Overberg

Quaddie Numbers: 1 3 5 6

R7 Agvantage Uav (bm64) 1400m

Firenze has been very competitive and close to winning over some very good horses of late. Will have top weight here but down in grade can win. Ecology has been running consistently without winning and if things go right today it could win. Devilishly looks to be a serious horse for Hayes & Dabernig, and looks ready to win. Gilarde has been running well in lower grades before moving to this grade, and if it has a bit of luck can win this. If looking for more value, an each way bet on Bellissima Miss looks good.

Best Bet: Firenze

Quaddie Numbers: 1 & 3 if want to save $ on combinations, otherwise 1 3 4 7 9

R8 (bm64) 1000m

A field of 16 contest the final race here. Gemmalenah won on debut by over a length, and if it runs like that again it will win this. Saint Valorem won it’s maiden on the second attempt and looks to be a serious horse. Release The Speed is one that has been running in higher grades and can surprise many at very nice odds ($26). Roughly won it’s debut by half a length here not long ago and with an apprentice claim of 4kg’s will have every chance here. Streetshavenoname is an honest horse but just can’t seem to find the line before anyone else, prefer a place bet for this one!

Best Bet: Roughly

Wednesday Winners // 23rd March

This Wednesday sees an 8-race card at Sandown Lakeside with plenty of value on offer.

Race 1 Benchmark 70 1600m
Strong favourite Vandancer looks to be too good for the small field. It’s last start win by over 2 lengths just proves it has some potential.

Race 3 Maiden Plate 1300m
One of our blackbookers tops race 3 in Montana from the Darren Weir stable, hopefully he can get out of the maidens with a strong performance here.

Race 4 Benchmark 64 2400m
Strong runners feature here, and while the favourite looks very promising, my money is on Hipster Girl with Craig Williams on board. This mare looks to be great value around the $6 mark.

Race 6 Benchmark 64 1400m
Euston Road, Mood Hiller, and Zapurbly should all be right up there, however I see value in the top weight, She’s Got Speed. She’s first up, and performed very  well last prep. At around $7 you can’t go wrong EW.

Should be a great day of midweek racing in Victoria, we hope you find some winners!
